Witherspoon has weathered the winter for 135 years, and it remains up to the task of carrying cars across Licking Creek. When winter transport was by sleigh, however, covered bridges presented a problem: no snow on the roadbed for the sleigh's runners. In those days, snow had to be shoveled onto the roadbed, not off.
