Covina, California, USA

Defining Main Street: The Jewelry Store. Locally owned and operated jewelry stores seem to survive longer on Main Street than most other operations. Often they have a clock outside. If that box of chocolates didn't quite do the trick yesterday, maybe you should have tried the jewelry store. [2015]

Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA

Downtown Spartanburg's most recognized landmark is the bell tower, which quadruples as a clock tower. Yes, there are four recently-modernized clocks rising high above town and visible from all directions. No one ever has a good excuse for being late in the Hub City. [2022]

Spokane, Washington, USA

The Great Northern Clock Tower is an early 20th century landmark, an authentic reminder of the role played by rail connections in turning a frontier outpost into the cardinal place of eastern Washington. Rising high above the city, this was the clock that established the rhythms of each day. It displayed the time of record despite what other clocks said. [2019]

Grand Island, Nebraska, USA

Unexpectedly Funny! For the supine souls in the basement of this funeral home, time has not just come to a halt; time has run out completely. Beyond that, however, just the idea that a funeral home has mounted a clock outside tickles the funny bone. Time to stop in for a visit? [2009]

Newport, Rhode Island, USA

It's time to repent! Churches, especially those with steeples, are among the buildings most frequently adorned with clocks. Trinity Episcopal Church may have begun life with a bell tower to mark the time, but the rector later added a clock: a bell for all to hear and a clock for all to see. Don't be late for worship. Marion, North Carolina, USA

It's time to buy! Clocks are frequently seen outside jewelry stores. Why? (1) It attracts attention on the street. (2) It communicates accuracy and symbolizes trust. (3) It carries a "don't delay, buy now" message. (4) It is a reminder that the best fully jeweled watches are available inside. [2011]

St. George, Utah, USA

It's time to save! Please put some of your earnings in a savings account so your local bank has some money to lend (and make money on). To say thank you, many banks perch a clock outside as a public service. That was especially important before the era of inexpensive wrist watches, which essentially privatized times. [2009]

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Yesterday, everybody in New Orleans was acting like a horse's ass. Today, they are confessing their sins and promising good behavior for the next forty days. Who's riding that stead? Andrew Jackson, positioned in the middle of Jackson Square. The original inhabitants of North America consider him a horse's ass. Do you know why? [2022]

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

February is all about the number two, and 2/22 is a palindrome too! Guadalajara is Mexico City's chief rival. As such, it has an exquisite collection of churches, including this neo-Gothic one dedicated to the Holy Sacraments. Construction took 75 years, and it's not even a cathedral. Be sure to see tomorrow's post.[2007]

Seoul, South Korea

February is all about the number two, and 2/22 is a palindrome too! Geographically Yours has complained repeatedly about any world globe that is not tilted 23½° on its axis, but here is a unique instance of one tilted too much. Perhaps it is so people on the street can see Korea. Be sure to see tomorrow's post. [2016]

New Roads, Louisiana, USA

February is all about the number two, and 2/22 is a palindrome too! You are running out of time to put those cards into the hands of loved ones. If you haven't already mailed them, better deliver them in person. Happy Valentine's Day! Be sure to see yesterday's post. [2022]

Schaan, Liechtenstein

February is all about the number two, and 2/22 is a palindrome too! Two problems with this steeple-bound clock: (1) the church and (2) the mountains. The former preaches a timeless eternity. The latter observes a different measure of time. Be sure to see tomorrow's post. [1984]

Lenexa, Kansas, USA

It's only a row of storefronts along the town's main street. What sets it apart? A passenger rail station that seems to serve no one, but proudly displays a clock and the town's name. It has the feel of a residence but seems new and a bit mysterious. Maybe Lenexa should add an explanatory plaque. [2021]

Mulvane, Kansas, USA

It's only a row of storefronts along the town's main street. What sets it apart? A town clock. Every American town could be satisfied with looking like every other town, but why not add something to make it different? Maybe Mulvane could also add a row of visually compatible lamp posts. Oh, wait, they already did! [2021]

Austin, Texas, USA

Odds and Evens, Ones and Twos, Singles and Doubles, Which one be You? Here are two women, one seller and one buyer, plus one cart that transports and displays Flowers on the Fly. The setting: under a clock that screams: "Time to Buy!" [2018]

Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

The Minneapolis-St. Paul metro hosts the headquarters of 26 Fortune 1000 companies. In Minneapolis, itself, are U.S. Bancorp, Target, Ameriprise Financial, Alina Health, and Sleep Number, among others. U.S. Bank Plaza is easy to pick out, but the tallest building is now home to online Capella University. 3M, GM, and Best Buy are in the suburbs. [2021]

Chicago, Illinois, USA

As the first skyscraper north of the Chicago River, the Wrigley Building became the leading edge of vertical urbanism in the 1920s. Its size and stunning design visually dominated the Magnificent Mile for the next 75 years. Then, it got some competition from the Trump Tower and a high-rise condo nearby. Compare the view now with the skyline in 2006. [2021]

Castletown, Isle of Man

Castle Rushen is one of the most authentic medieval castles in Europe. What's not surprising is that it anchors the old capital of the Isle of Man, once an independent kingdom. What is surprising is that this happens to be the 4000th post on Geographically Yours. At a picture-a-day, that takes you back to the summer of 2010 when Geographically Yours began. [2011]

Jerusalem, Israel

Look at the timepiece. Is it a clock or a wormhole? If you don't recognize the numerals, it might be the latter, i.e., a time tunnel connecting two dimensions: 21st century CE Israel with 10th century BCE Phoenicia. The numbers are letters from the ancient Phoenician alphabet. The only one that looks familiar is the 8. Yet, surprisingly, you can read all twelve! [2010]

Victoria, Gozo, Malta

♫ These Are a Few of My Favorite Things ♫ ~ Clocks: Time ticketh away: The end of the year will soon be upon us. Clocks on the landscape make time so ever-present (ever-threatening, too). They are provided, presumably as a service, by governments, churches, and businesses. Why? [2009]
