Pas de la Casa, Andorra

It is not easy entering Andorra from France. You have to wind your way up the north flank of the Pyrenees and through the 'pass of the house.' One shepherd's hut, however, has become a frontier town and ski resort complete with a touch of America. At more than 9,000 feet above sea level, this might be the highest McDonald's in Europe. 1. I crossed into Andorra at this pass in October 1980 - in a snowstorm which was bad enough to warrant buying chains by the side of the road. Which I never used again.

On January 1, 1983, I ventured from Carcassonne to Andorra - with some trepidation thanks to the 1980 experience, and found it without snow, in bright sun, an even I could not document as my camera had broken the night before.

Thanks for the memories. It looked nothing like this (maybe 3 buildings? maybe 6?).
