Here's the formula for a mariachi band: 3 guitars (different sizes), 2 violins, 1 trumpet, 0 women. Do expect variations on a theme, however, and even the gender mix is changing. Mariachi bands originated in the folk culture of Jalisco in Mexico. [2008]
