FWIW, the federal terminology for the job you've referred to was changed by law decades ago to "letter carrier." They changed some other terms, too. Firefighter is the federal government's term, for instance, and police officer. I don't know whether the changes are mandated for private positions, since states and towns have their own fire personnel, and even private companies may refer to their security forces as police. But for federal employment, and the job announcements they publish, federal terminology is intended to be used. Ergo, letter carrier.
