By proclamation of the locals (or, at least one of them), Ocracoke is the home of the brave. Who is their enemy? Who do they have to stand against? At this point in time, it seems to be Neptune, the god behind sea-level rise. Ocracoke has an elevation of only about 3 feet. [2019]
