Jma el Fna is at the heart of Marrakesh. Few Arab cities have such a large open square but Marrakech was settled by Saharans who wanted a place to enact their desert rituals. Today, though, everything that goes on here is done with tourists in mind. The mid-day sun discourages a lot of activity, but when the sun sets, Jma el Fna fills up with people. [2017]
