Schellsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
The L stands for Lincoln Highway, the country's first modern transcontinental connection. This year is its 100th anniversary. For the first time in 1913 it appeared on a map, and over the next decade it materialized on the landscape, less than half a century later to be supplanted by the Interstate Highway System.
