Paris, France

Navigable rivers and interfluvial canals make of Europe a spiderweb of filaments that facilitate internal and international commerce. Along the Seine in the heart of Paris, the working city comes shoulder-to-shoulder with the city of spectacle as a canal boat glides past Île de la Cité. [2005]

  1. Skyscrapers and tall buildings are banned from central Paris and everybody is happy with that.

One exception was made, one horrendous error resulted: the Tour Montparnasse, that black slab looking for all concerned like the "monolith" in "2001 a Space Odyssey" and everybody hates it. May it not last long and vanish quickly!

All high rises were relegated to "La Défense". Do go there if, without having to leave France, you wish to see Yokohama, New York, Tokyo, Gotham City and Metropolis all wrapped up into one huge inhumane sprawling "concrete thing".
