The Kingdom of Portugal led Europe onto the Atlantic beginning in the 1400s. Much of the credit goes to Prince Henry the Navigator. Here he leads the pack of European explorers from the bow of a monumental caravel rising above the Tagus River in Belem, the royal heart of Lisbon. [2009]
