The southern lobe of the island of Bonaire was so low in elevation that mariners couldn't see it. Thinking they were still far from the island, as defined by its mountainous core, they would unknowingly run aground. Keeping that from happening is this lighthouse's
raison d'être. Every lighthouse has one. [2017]
