Saints Cyril and Methodius christianized the Slavic peoples along the Danube River by translating the Bible into the vernacular language, Slavonic. To do that, they devised the Cyrillic alphabet. Cyril stands next to his elder, Methodius. In Bulgaria, they are national heroes. [2010]
